There’s no single “right” moment to involve a death doula. Some people reach out after receiving a serious diagnosis. Others call when a loved one is entering hospice. And many people connect simply because they want to prepare thoughtfully for the future.
You might consider reaching out if:
You or a loved one has received a life-limiting diagnosis and wants support navigating what comes next
A family member is nearing the end of life, and the emotional or logistical load feels overwhelming
You want help starting conversations about wishes, legacy, or end-of-life planning
You’re interested in creating a Care Circle, so support can be shared across your community
You want help planning a meaningful celebration of life or bedside ritual
You’re curious about eco-friendly or personalized end-of-life options
You simply want someone to talk with openly about death or diagnosis without fear, pressure, or awkwardness
Death doulas aren’t just for the final days. Many people find that the earlier these conversations begin, the more space there is for intention, connection, and even a little joy along the way.

A Care Circle is a small group of trusted people who come together to support someone during illness, recovery, or the end of life. Instead of one overwhelmed caregiver trying to do everything, a Care Circle distributes care across a community.
At Until Death Doulas, we help design and coordinate Care Circles so support can be shared in practical and meaningful ways. A Care Circle might help with meals, transportation, companionship, administrative tasks, or simply sitting together and holding space.
Creating a Care Circle reminds us of something important: no one is meant to move through life—or death—alone. With the right structure and communication, community care becomes possible again.

End-of-life care is a team effort. Doctors, nurses, social workers, and chaplains provide essential medical and clinical care. A death doula complements that care by focusing on the personal, emotional, practical, and ceremonial aspects of the experience.
At Until Death Doulas, we work alongside your existing care team to support the human side of dying. That can include helping organize a Care Circle of friends and family, facilitating conversations about wishes and fears, creating meaningful rituals, planning celebrations of life, and making sure important details don’t get lost in the shuffle of medical care.
Think of a death doula as someone who holds the container for the experience and makes space for the logistics, emotions, stories, and sometimes even the laughter that arise at the end of life.
